Flashback: The Edge of Night 1980

Episode #6282 - On Monday, June 16, 1980, THE EDGE OF NIGHT introduced its fourth title sequence. Since fictional Monticello had obviously mushroomed from an "average-sized city" to a bustling metropolis, the producers eliminated the trusty Cincinnati skyline, replacing it with an up-to-date shot of Los Angeles. The opening title began with an upwardly moving shot of skyscrapers then dissolved into an extended series of original still-shots of the cast. The final castmember still-shot then segued into the LA skyline, the show's logo moved to the top of the screen from behind the city, and the skyline darkened to night.

But he took a brief break from legislative business yesterday to tune in to his son's live acting debut on a fictional soap opera. Christopher Cafero, 19, who honed his acting talents at Brien McMahon High School, began his run yesterday in the first of six planned episodes of CBS' AS THE WORLD TURNS. "I can't tell you what a feeling it is to see your kid" on television, a beaming Cafero said after taking time at 2 p.m. to watch the show with colleagues and staff. Cafero said he knows little about his son's fledgling career, which began with some commercials. "My wife and I know nothing about this," Cafero said. "It's not like coaching your kid in Little League . . . To turn on the TV - It's like 'Holy Cow.' " Cafero said his son plays the new character of Dillon. "He will potentially be the boyfriend of the new character Liberty," Cafero said. Marj Dusay has a knack for sports Even if you have no clue what Marj Dusay does, or has done for a living, and what she might do for fun, you could venture an educated guess when you first meet her. Her presence may give you the idea that she knows how to face a camera, which would be true, since she has starred in plays, commercials, movies and television shows, most notably as Alexandra Spaulding on GUIDING LIGHT. And her attitude could lend you to picture her indulging in the occasional drink, which is fact as well, like when she celebrated her Kansas Jayhawks' national basketball title last month with a bottle of cabernet. But even if you knew those things and other tidbits of Dusay's life, which brought her to be a part of the 81st Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, it is unlikely you would have randomly uncovered her crowning athletic achievement — she once shot a round of golf 2-under par. Buffett embraces Erica Kane, mocks mortgage mess It's part of Warren Buffett's job not just to answer questions from many of the 31,000 people at the annual meeting of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. He also has to entertain. Especially if the entertainment involves Susan Lucci, one of America's best-known soap opera stars. Part of the roughly one-hour movie preceding this year's meeting, produced by Buffett's daughter Susie, showed a clip of Buffett's recent cameo on the soap opera ALL MY CHILDREN. Buffett, who plays himself, visits Erica Kane, portrayed by Lucci, who is in prison on an insider trading charge. The movie included faux news reports about his leaving Berkshire, which the 77-year-old has run since 1965, to swap jobs with Lucci. So at the start of the meeting, instead of Buffett emerging with Berkshire Vice Chairman Charlie Munger, Lucci came out. And she promised change. "The first thing we need to change is our dividend policy," she said. "I have never heard of anything so cheap and so unfair to our shareholders." Berkshire hasn't paid a cash dividend since 1967. 1 CRYSTAL CHAPPELL: It always feel goods. There's never a bad feeling when your nominated. It's exciting, I am sort of in the middle of my day when I am driving my kids around, going grocery shopping and paying bills so it's really kind of this surreal thing that is laid in your lap. I am looking forward to June and seeing people and I am so excited that a lot of new people got nominated. It was really kind of exciting. [I submitted] The second part of Buzz and Olivia's wedding where Olivia is in Company and talking to Jeffrey about their past and the second episode was primarily with Kim Zimmer (Reva). It was Olivia blackmailing Reva to help her with Jeffrey. I thought they were different episodes and told a story, even though it's sort of warped, but it tells a story. 1 NICOLE FORESTER: It feels fantastic. I am super duper excited and I just feel really grateful that people watch my work and like it. We had to submit two episodes so I picked two episodes around the time of Tammy's death. The first one Tammy was in the hospital and Cassie was keeping vigil and then the next one was a couple episodes later, after Tammy died, and it was a really crucial and emotional time in Cassie's life. 1 KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY: walked in the building, Eve Luzzi, she handles all the money in the studio, she told me. I actually had my phone off on the drive into the studio. I was having a really nice drive into the city, and I didn't want to ruin it with some bad news, so I waited until I made it to the studio. We had to submit two shows. The first was an episode with Grayson [McCouch, ex-Dusty] and myself. I think I was about five or six months pregnant at the time and Emily was prostituting at the time and was beaten up pretty badly. At the end of the show, Dusty sees her and sees the bruises. It's really a beautiful episode. When I originally read it, I went downstairs to ask who wrote it because it was so beautifully written. The second show had scenes with Grayson again and Robin Mattson [ex-Cheri] and her keeping me in prostitution. 1 VAN HANSIS: It feels a little bit different [being nominated this year]. I didn't really think about it that much this year, compared to last year, where I thought about it a lot. I didn't really get nervous about it until this morning when I woke up. I had a conversation with my parents and was like, "If it happens that's great. If it doesn't, that's great too." If I wasn't nominated I'd still be just as happy because I have a great job. I love going to work everyday. A nomination is only icing on the top of a cake but it's good to have your cake iced. I submitted this one that was right after the towel scene where Luke and Noah (Jake Silbermann) have their towel fight and Luke is begining to think that Noah has feelings for him. Maddie (Alexandra Chando) comes in and says that she's changed her mind and is not going to move out of Oakdale. It was a good episode because I had some scenes with Alex and also Jake when Noah starts accusing Luke of meddling too much. Also there were some great scenes with Aaron (Agim Kaba). The second episode is right after the first kiss between Noah and Luke and Luke is trying to convince Noah to tell his father that he is gay. 1 JESSE SOFFER: Once again, it's cool. Very nice. It's a wonderful parting gift. I've been done for a few months now and haven't seen anyone for a while so it will be cool to see them in L.A. and have a reason to go back to California. It will be a good time; I'm excited. I know one [of the scenes submitted] for sure is when Gwen thinks that Will is lying about stealing the money from her mother to pay for Gwen's studio time and Will is framed by Adam and we have this huge fight. So I know that's one of them. I'm not sure what the other one is.
