1 CRYSTAL CHAPPELL: It always feel goods. There's never a bad feeling when your nominated. It's exciting, I am sort of in the middle of my day when I am driving my kids around, going grocery shopping and paying bills so it's really kind of this surreal thing that is laid in your lap. I am looking forward to June and seeing people and I am so excited that a lot of new people got nominated. It was really kind of exciting. [I submitted] The second part of Buzz and Olivia's wedding where Olivia is in Company and talking to Jeffrey about their past and the second episode was primarily with Kim Zimmer (Reva). It was Olivia blackmailing Reva to help her with Jeffrey. I thought they were different episodes and told a story, even though it's sort of warped, but it tells a story. 1 NICOLE FORESTER: It feels fantastic. I am super duper excited and I just feel really grateful that people watch my work and like it. We had to submit two episodes so I picked two episodes around the time of Tammy's death. The first one Tammy was in the hospital and Cassie was keeping vigil and then the next one was a couple episodes later, after Tammy died, and it was a really crucial and emotional time in Cassie's life. 1 KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY: walked in the building, Eve Luzzi, she handles all the money in the studio, she told me. I actually had my phone off on the drive into the studio. I was having a really nice drive into the city, and I didn't want to ruin it with some bad news, so I waited until I made it to the studio. We had to submit two shows. The first was an episode with Grayson [McCouch, ex-Dusty] and myself. I think I was about five or six months pregnant at the time and Emily was prostituting at the time and was beaten up pretty badly. At the end of the show, Dusty sees her and sees the bruises. It's really a beautiful episode. When I originally read it, I went downstairs to ask who wrote it because it was so beautifully written. The second show had scenes with Grayson again and Robin Mattson [ex-Cheri] and her keeping me in prostitution. 1 VAN HANSIS: It feels a little bit different [being nominated this year]. I didn't really think about it that much this year, compared to last year, where I thought about it a lot. I didn't really get nervous about it until this morning when I woke up. I had a conversation with my parents and was like, "If it happens that's great. If it doesn't, that's great too." If I wasn't nominated I'd still be just as happy because I have a great job. I love going to work everyday. A nomination is only icing on the top of a cake but it's good to have your cake iced. I submitted this one that was right after the towel scene where Luke and Noah (Jake Silbermann) have their towel fight and Luke is begining to think that Noah has feelings for him. Maddie (Alexandra Chando) comes in and says that she's changed her mind and is not going to move out of Oakdale. It was a good episode because I had some scenes with Alex and also Jake when Noah starts accusing Luke of meddling too much. Also there were some great scenes with Aaron (Agim Kaba). The second episode is right after the first kiss between Noah and Luke and Luke is trying to convince Noah to tell his father that he is gay. 1 JESSE SOFFER: Once again, it's cool. Very nice. It's a wonderful parting gift. I've been done for a few months now and haven't seen anyone for a while so it will be cool to see them in L.A. and have a reason to go back to California. It will be a good time; I'm excited. I know one [of the scenes submitted] for sure is when Gwen thinks that Will is lying about stealing the money from her mother to pay for Gwen's studio time and Will is framed by Adam and we have this huge fight. So I know that's one of them. I'm not sure what the other one is.

WGA Presidents Ignite Fracas Over Fi-core "Fi-core was set up to let people have freedom of choice," said manager Brad Kramer, who represents two of the writers listed in the WGA letter: former DAYS OF OUR LIVES head writer Hogan Sheffer and former co-head writer Meg Kelly. Kramer was outraged that WGA West president Patric Verrone and WGA East president Michael Winship revealed the names of 28 writers who opted for financial-core status during the 100-day strike (which included his two clients) without considering the financial difficulties daytime writers face. The WGA presidents addressed this in their letter, stating, "Even in cases of deep financial distress, there were other options, including generous no-interest loans from our strike funds, which would have sustained them until the end of the strike and beyond. That's what unions are for." But Kramer said his clients were not made aware of such loans, and he questioned how writers such as Kelly, the head of a one-income family, could have paid back a loan after she lost her job due to the strike. "Meg would have lost her house had she not gone fi-core, and [she] couldn't take care of her kids," said Kramer. "Period. It's very easy for [Verrone and Winship] to say she could have sacrificed.... If she takes a loan, how does she pay it back without a job?" Kramer said Sheffer, who also faced financial difficulty, continued writing for Days during the strike in hopes of saving the other staff writers' jobs. "The show's ratings were in trouble, and he was told there were no writers to write," said Kramer. "So he went back to try to save the writers on the team and help the show. That's half the reason the other writers went back too." Unfortunately, five of Kramer's seven clients who write for Days, including Sheffer and Kelly, lost their jobs due to the strike, though Kramer declined to specify the reasons. The manager pointed out that daytime writers are in a more tenuous position than other WGA members: Their jobs are usually temporary, and the daytime genre is slowly dying out, due to low ratings and the growing popularity of reality shows. "They're the people who are in the worst position of any of the writers, because daytime is going away," he said. "I would hope that the leader of the pack would understand that these people are trying to pay their bills and make the money to survive for the rest of their lives." Kramer said it's too early to tell whether the WGA's letter will adversely affect Sheffer's or Kelly's careers. "When people talk badly about others, unfortunately, sometimes other people listen," he said. ATWT fans fight back against AFA’s ‘action alert’ Vicky Mora, another fan of the soap, isn’t taking any of this lying down. The Florida resident says she never watched a soap opera until Luke and Noah became part of AS THE WORLD TURN. Now an activist within the show's fan community, she emphasizes the groundbreaking importance of the storyline. "We have a diverse mix of people at our message boards," Mora said. "We have people who are openly gay, lesbians, straight people and grandmothers. People's minds are being changed by this story." Mora says that the fan base doesn’t want gratuitous sex scenes. "e want a good story, with good writing,” she said. “We want scenes that make sense. That's why this last kissing scene worked. It showed that they love each other." DePaiva: "appreciate the everyday sounds of life" Kassie DePaiva of ONE LIFE TO LIVE has a son, J.Q. DePaiva, who was born deaf but can now hear with the help of a cochlear implant. "We have come to appreciate the everyday sounds of life and are grateful for every word and sound that J.Q. can hear," DePaiva said. "I encourage those suffering from hearing loss to get their hearing tested or to help loved ones -- a mother, grandfather, child, uncle or friend -- do the same so they too can appreciate all that sound can do to build a relationship." B&B's Ashley Jones wants to expand her range Continuing her regular role on daytime's THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL while making the Lifetime movie A Teacher's Crime, which airs Saturday (5/3) -- as well as the cable network's forthcoming Dead at 17 telepic -- was "a little tough," admits gorgeous blond rising actress Ashley Jones. "I was taking redeyes back and forth to Canada and doing a few shows at a time in between." Jones has been looking to expand her range professionally, not only as an actress, but also behind the scenes, with an eye toward producing. She plays a teacher and mother who is being blackmailed via threats of a sexual impropriety accusation in A Teacher's Crime and in Dead at 17, she's an "adult" dancer.

"Hooray: ONE LIFE TO LIVE! Boo: BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL" Tom O'Neil from the Gold Derby writes: "Hallelujah!" cried journos back in the press room when "One Life to Live" was nommed for best drama series. It's widely perceived to be the best soap on the tube this year. But also beloved right now is "The Bold and the Beautiful," which got snubbed. Curious oddity in the lead acting races. The lead actor race is full of the reigning older dudes like David Canary, Peter Bergman and Anthony Geary. But the older dames are missing from the leading lady race — except for Jeanne Cooper, who is long overdue to win after more than three decades starring on TV's top-rated soap, "The Young and the Restless." "I simply don't understand the system" Elaine G. Flores from Soap Opera Digest writes: So, the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy nominations were just announced a little while ago, and I'm already vexed. I simply don't understand the system: There are countless glaring omissions and a few laughable head-scratchers who made the cut. I can't believe the Younger Actress category could overlook a spitfire like GH's Kirsten Storms (Maxie). Shelley Hennig (Stephanie, DAYS) kicked some serious butt in one of DAYS's most compelling stories with campus rapist Ford Decker. And while three of the Younger Actress nominations went to Y&R, how on earth did Christel Khalil who carried the youth storylines as Lily not get a slot? The perennial snubbing of Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, B&B) is just outrageous. After Brooke's rape last year, there was an episode where she vowed to get her life back. It was very moving and raw, and I distinctly recall getting chills and saying to myself how this was gonna be her year. Apparently not. I hope someone is paying attention to the scenes she had this week at Katie's bedside. Why is Alicia Minshew, who jumps through hoops as AMC's Kendall, not a nominee? And another thing, I know the Emmys love to reward sobbing and screaming, but I wish they paid more attention to the value of endearing quirkiness. As I was howling at my pal Danielle McClure's desk, she goes: "Funny never wins, Elaine. Funny never wins." I adore Bradford Anderson's Spinelli on GH and I wish the people who came up with this list had recognized him. The guy has waaaaaaay more to do than some other people in the Younger Actor category. I know this is a long shot, but another GHer Carolyn Hennesy (Diane) is very talented and would have made a fresh addition to the Supporting category. To my way of thinking, she beautifully exemplifies what it means to be a supporting actress. On the bright side, I'm really glad that ATWT's Trent Dawson (Henry) is there to represent the character actors. And Emily O'Brien's Jana on Y&R is certainly a colorful character, from the Amy Winehouse hair on down. I'm really glad that DAYS received so many nominations, especially that bankable cutie Darin Brooks as Max. But only one for GH? Seriously? " I only have this to say: ...???...?!?!...???..." Mallory at Serial Drama writes: According to Mirriam-Webster, synonyms for "outstanding" include exceptional, magnificent, extraordinary and remarkable. When I think of those words, I do not think of a show so boring and repetitive that it made me fall asleep on multiple occasions, whose boringness was only broken up by terrible stories about porn, an ill-advised recast, a long and mostly pointless prison storyline, a long and mostly pointless political storyline, a poorly written device to write off a core character, appalling hairstyles, a cheesy story about psychopaths with plastic surgery, bad photoshop, a disaster story so wretched that even Bob Guza laughed at it and the continued employment of daytime's only robot cast member. But that show seems downright brilliant compared to GENERAL HOSPITAL. "dismayed by the small number of ABC actor nods" Lauren Flynn from Soap Opera Digest writes: I've just returned from the 35th Annual Emmy Award nominations announced live at THE VIEW! Press was herded to a lounge area (where we had a Whoopi Goldberg sighting!) to watch the noms on TVs. I must admit, as annoyed as I was that I had to watch Tyra Banks blabber her way through an interview with Whoopi, Joy, Sherri and Elisabeth (no Barbara today, sadly) when there was not a single soap-star interview, it was hilarious how Banks managed to dominate the interview. As Joy said during earlier bickering, "There has to be a period on the sentence before someone else starts talking." LOL. As for the noms themselves, boy were there a few, er, surprises. While I totes agree with OLTL, GH and Y&R's nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, I was dismayed by the small number of ABC actor nods and the overwhelming actor nominations for CBS folks. And where, oh, where were ATWT's Martha Byrne (ex-Lily), B&B's Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, B&B), Erika Slezak (Viki, OLTL) and Laura Wright (Carly, GH) in the Outstanding Lead Actress category? Also, I must give a shout-out to Kirsten Storms (Maxie, GH), who IMO, should have taken home the Emmy right then and there. I hope this doesn't deter Storms from attending the ceremony, because I'd like to shake that young lady's hand. All that said, kudos to ALL the nominees and I look forward to the 2008 Daytime Emmys!
