Daytime Emmy Gift Bags

1 THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS actors Christel Khalil and Doug Davidson were two of the celebs picking up up their goodie bags at the Daytime Emmy official gift lounge produced by On 3 Productions held at the Kodak Theatre today. The stars will soon be on their way to Crimson and Opera in Hollwood for SOAPnet's big Pre-Emmy bash.

1 - Photo by Sue Coflin, who also appears in the film I have received a number of inquiries about when my film, Manhattanites, will be released so I wanted to provide an update here. For those who don't know, my partner and I, who formed Loger Inc a few years back, were the Executive Producers of the film. I wrote the script with my long-time friend, Gregori J. Martin, who directed and starred in the movie. The film stars several familiar faces to soap fans including Ilene Kristen, Forbes March, Aiden Turner, David Fumero and Jill Larson. We held a very successful two night industry screening in late May with the cast (see photo), crew, potential distributors and a few select guests from press. Over the past few weeks we have been working on final edits and sound design. We are shaving a few minutes off the film and perfecting the sound but it will not be radically different than the version we screened, just a cleaner version. That process should be completed by the end of June at which time we will begin a big push with distribution companies. The next steps could play out in a number of ways. The film could get picked up right away and you'll see it on DVD in the not too distant future. We may also visit some select film festivals to stir up interest. Either way, the process has been a fun ride so far and I'm sure it will continue to be. From the ABC Daytime ratings release: * ABC clinched its 5th consecutive victory as Daytime's No. 1 network in Women 18-49 (No. 1T - 1.3 rating/879,000). * In Women 18-49, for the 10th week running, ABC owned 3 of Daytime's Top 5 programs: "General Hospital" (No. 2, 1.5 rating/973,000), "One Life to Live" (No. 3T, 1.3 rating/880,000) and "All My Children" (No. 3T, 1.3 rating/841,000). * In Women 18-34, ABC aired 3 of Daytime's Top 3 programs for the 10th consecutive week: "General Hospital" (No. 2T, 1.0 rating/344,000), "The View" (No. 4, 0.9 rating/294,000) and "One Life to Live" (No. 5, 0.8 rating/283,000). * A Top 5 player in target young Women, "One Life to Live" topped time period competitor CBS' "As the World Turns" by a dominating 64% in Women 18-34 (283,000 vs. 173,000) and by 33% in Women 18-49 (880,000 vs. 660,000). * Delivering another convincing win in Daytime's 3 o'clock hour, "General Hospital" defeated CBS' "Guiding Light" by a considerable 139% in Women 18-34 (344,000 vs. 144,000), by 62% in Women 18-49 (973,000 vs. 600,000) and by 22% in Total Viewers (2.79 million vs. 2.28 million). ATWT Casting Notice

ATWT has put out a casting notice for the character of Randi, a female cop who shares scenes with Henry and Mike per the audition script. In the audition scene, Henry and Randi are in the Lakeview dining room and Henry is trying to get Randi to go on a real date with him and to forget about Mike. Randi isn't interested but Henry finally makes her see that Mike isn't around or interested so she agrees. These audition scripts are sometimes nothing like what would actually play out on the show so take it with a grain of salt.

DC Podcast: Nelson Branco's Emmy Predictions

1 On today's Daytime Confidential Podcast, TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco joins Luke and Jamey as they make their predictions on who will take home the Emmy at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday. Picks are made for who should win and who will win from Outstanding Show, Writing, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Younger Actor and Younger Actress. Nelson reveals which episodes the stars submitted and who had strongest episodes and who's episodes didn't even compete. Check back here later this week for full list of all the expert's Emmy picks.

Producer Robert Calhoun dies at 77

Robert Calhoun, best known to soap fans for his runs as Executive Producer at AS THE WORLD TURNS and GUIDING LIGHT has passed away. He died of lung cancer in New York on May 24th at age 77. Calhoun won a 1987 Daytime Emmy Award for producing AS THE WORLD TURNS and was nominated for five more Emmys as a producer and two as a director. Calhoun's work over the years ranged from helping to launch the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles to translating Italian film scripts into English while working in Italy in the early 1970s. Calhoun was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from the U. of Maryland, after serving three years in the U.S. Navy. His early work in the theater included a stint as production supervisor for Eva Le Gallienne's National Repertory Theater, during productions of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" and Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull," where he met his lifelong partner, the actor Farley Granger, in 1963. Calhoun subsequently moved to Southern California, where he worked on early productions at the Mark Taper Forum. In 1970, Calhoun moved to Italy with Granger, and spent several years living in Rome. He went back in the mid-1970s to Southern California and the Mark Taper, where he directed plays for the New Theater for Now program. After a few years, he returned to New York to work in daytime television. Calhoun was co-author of Granger's memoir, "Include Me Out," which was published in 2007. Soap Stars at Tony Awards

Laura Bell Bundy (GUIDING LIGHT), Laurence Fishburne (ONE LIFE TO LIVE) and Marisa Tomei (AS THE WORLD TURNS) were among the former soap stars on hand for last night's Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall celebrating the best in Broadway. "In the Heights" won as top musical, "August: Osage County" for best play and "South Pacific" for best revival. 1
