CW Remaking MELROSE PLACE
1 Now that a new version of 90210 is posting decent numbers for the CW, it was probably only a matter of time before the net dusted off MELROSE PLACE as well. Insiders confirm that the CW and CBS Paramount Network TV are exploring the possibility of revisiting MELROSE, much in the same way it recently returned to Beverly Hills' famed zip code. MELROSE PLACE was a spin-off of the original BEVERLY HILLS, 90210. Both shows helped rejuvenate Aaron Spelling's career in the 1990s, turning the TV icon once again into one of TV's biggest hitmakers. The two shows were even paired together on Fox's Wednesday night schedule during MELROSE'S first two years of existence, before MELROSE became a Monday night staple. MELROSE PLACE ran on Fox from 1992 through 1999, and notably turned into a hit sudser after Heather Locklear joined the cast as the scheming Amanda Woodward. Show also starred Grant Show - most recently seen on CBS Par's "Swingtown" - as well as Courtney Thorne-Smith, Andrew Shue, Thomas Calabro and Josie Bissett. The show also further the careers of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES stars Marcia Cross and Doug Savant. MELROSE later cast members included Rob Estes - who now stars as the father on the new 90210. Sources stress that the MELROSE discussions are still early. But network and studio execs have been quipping about such a move ever since 90210 scored big opening numbers on the CW.
DANCING WITH THE STARS: Susan Lucci in Bottom Two
1 Once again Susan Lucci was close to being sent home on DANCING WITH THE STARS, but she was given a reprieve. Tom Bergeron told her and Cloris Leachman that they had the lowest number of votes for the night. Cloris was sent home, and Susan will have to step up her game as the competition continues. Soon each dancer will perform two dances and the judges are going to be more critical. The competition is now moving into the next phase and Susan will have to have to be a lot looser in her dancing in order to move on to the next round. We'll see what happens on the next DANCING WITH THE STARS.
The Latest in Soap Videos: Election 2008 Edition
1 We are now just seven days until one of the biggest elections in United States history. Not only has Obama vs McCain made waves in the soap world, so have some of the key propositions in California, Arizona and Florida on gay marriage. Early and absentee voting has started in many states. If you live in the U.S., please vote and let your voice be heard. Below are some election videos featuring the daytime community. I have posted some of these before but wanted to consolidate them all in one place. CBS CARES: ATWT's Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann encourage you to vote. Hansis' character, Luke Snyder, is running for Student Government President in November as well. ON MY PORCH: Video from the October 1st Daytime for Obama chat at NancyLeeGrahn.com. DAYTIME FOR OBAMA: Video from the Andrew Christian photo shoot. BLUE STATE MIND, RED STATE SOUL: Daytime vet Roscoe Born (most recently of DAYS) sings a country/blues/rock song saying "we're all Americans." WOMEN FOR OBAMA: Video from DAYS' Deidre Hall's "Change Women Need" rally at The Villages in Ocala and Gainesville, Florida. (Hall at 3:51) NO MOUNTAINTOP: Lauretta Vaughn (ex-Kit, AS THE WORLD TURNS) performed "No Mountaintop" from the new musical "Street Lights" at a benefit concert for Barack Obama in August. HAYDEN PANETTIERE PSA: Vote for McCain. NO ON PROP 8: GH's Carolyn Hennesy and others speak out against California's Proposition 8, which is trying to define "marriage" in the state constitution as between one man and one woman, effectively nullifying gay marriage. DON'T VOTE: Celebrities try to use reverse psychology to convince you to vote. TAKIN' IT BACK WITH BARACK JACK: ONE LIFE TO LIVE and Manhattanites star Ilene Kristen sitting in with the Will Galison Orchestra on a song targeting "swing" voters.
STRIKE TV Officially Launches Today
The beta version of Strike TV has been available to some for a while now, but the complete website is open to everyone (the "hard launch") as of today. 1 Check out Karen Harris' LIFE IN GENERAL, which is a behind the scenes look at the soap GREENVILLE GENERAL, where Arianne Zucker (Nicole, DAYS) stars as the harried head writer and John Ingle (Edward, GH) plays the show's creator. I gave the debut episode a B+ when I watched it back in August.
